How sea shipping works, from start to finish

Sea shipping is our way of moving big, heavy, or bulk shipments to Ghana at a fraction of air freight prices. It trades speed for savings — your items travel by ocean vessel, so plan for weeks rather than days. Here is the full journey.

1. Choose sea when you create a shipment

When you create a shipment, pick Sea as your shipping method. You will choose a sea warehouse — sea and air use different warehouses, so always send your items to the sea warehouse address shown in the app for that shipment. Prices depend on the warehouse you ship through, and you will see them before you commit.

2. Pick how your items travel

There are two ways to ship by sea:

• In a container you purchase. Best for many boxes or bulk goods. You buy the container, then fill it with your shipments over time. See "Containers: buying, filling, locking and sealing".
• As a standalone large item. Best for single big pieces like furniture or appliances. The item is priced against our large-item catalog, or measured at the warehouse. See "Shipping large items by sea".

3. Get your items to the warehouse

Ship or drop off your items at your sea warehouse, and add each tracking number in the app so we know what is yours. Mark packages with a sea marker where the app asks you to — it is how our warehouse team matches a box on the shelf to your container. When a package arrives that we cannot match to your app, the container screen will ask you to add and declare it.

4. Pay before it sails

Sea shipments must be paid for before they can leave the warehouse. Container purchases are paid up front. Large items are invoiced once they are classified or measured — you will get a notification, and the invoice is payable right away in the app. An unpaid item will simply wait at the warehouse; once you pay, it is cleared to ship.

5. Sailing and arrival

Once your container is sealed (or your large item is cleared), it boards a voyage. You can follow every stage in the app — from Preparing to Sail through Sailing to Arrived — including live updates from the shipping line. After the vessel docks in Ghana, we schedule the final delivery and you will receive a delivery code to hand over on arrival. See "Tracking your sea shipment and delivery in Ghana".

Good to know

• Sea timelines are measured in weeks. The app shows an estimated arrival and updates it if the voyage is delayed.
• Anything that cannot fit or be matched is never silently dropped — the app will always show you an action to resolve it.
